Four things to know before you plug it in. The OBD-II plug is built into the case — nothing to assemble.

Three steps. Five minutes, no tools. Every car or light truck built since 1996 has an OBD-II port — it's a legal requirement for emissions diagnostics.

01

Locate the OBD-II port.

It's typically under the dashboard near the steering column, sometimes behind a small cover. If you can't find it, search '<your car model> OBD-II port location' — every car's port is documented.

02

Plug the tracker into the port.

Push firmly until it seats. The plug is keyed — it only fits one way.

03

Add the angle adapter if it's a tight spot.

If the tracker fouls the pedals, foot-well panels, or your knees, use the supplied 90° adapter (when included) to redirect the tracker upward or out of the way.

Turn the ignition on once after plugging in. This wakes the OBD-II port and powers the tracker. Both LEDs should come alive within a minute.

You need to register and activate the device online before the tracker can report its location.

  1. Open start.finder-portal.com in a browser.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to pick a subscription plan and register the device using its ID.
  3. Download the FINDER Portal app on iOS or Android.

The Salind 08 has no on/off switch. Once plugged into the OBD-II port and the ignition is turned on, the tracker powers up automatically. Both LEDs should come alive within a minute.

Take the vehicle for a short drive. A 5–10-minute drive lets the tracker get its first GPS fix and lock onto the strongest cell network. Park outside or in an open area for the first power-on if possible.

Once the device has activated and reported its first position, you can track it from your phone, tablet, or computer.

The portal looks the same on every device. Here are the five places you'll spend most of your time.

  1. Application menuView statistics, device settings, alerts, logbook, etc.
  2. Alerts and activitiesLast activity, unread notifications, timeline.
  3. Refresh buttonUpdate the page.
  4. Device listOverview of all devices, alert settings, route history.
  5. OptionsMap view options.

Because the Salind 08 draws power directly from the OBD-II port, it reports its position continuously — there is no battery-saving standby mode. By default the tracker sends an update every 30 seconds while the vehicle is in motion.

If the tracker is unplugged — physically removed or the OBD-II port loses power — a Power-cut alert fires immediately so you know something has changed. The Salind 08 has no backup battery, so once unplugged it stops reporting until power is restored.

Each LED reports the health of one subsystem. The Salind 08 has no battery LED — power state is controlled by the OBD-II port.

Movement / Shock alert

Get notified the moment the tracker is moved or shaken while parked.

Geofence alert

Get notified when the tracker leaves (or enters) a custom area you draw on the map.

Speed alert

Get notified when the tracker exceeds a speed limit you set in the portal.

Power-cut alert

Get notified the moment the tracker is unplugged from the OBD-II port.

Electronic logbook

Automatic trip log of every journey — start, end, route, distance, duration. Exportable from the portal.

All alerts are configured inside the FINDER Portal. Once enabled, notifications fire to the app and to your email.

  • Don't position the tracker so it interferes with the pedals, foot-well, or your knees. Use the angle adapter if the port is in a tight spot.
  • If your fleet already uses the OBD-II port for separate telematics (insurance dongle, leasing report, diagnostics box), coordinate before plugging in — only one device at a time on the port.
  • Don't leave the tracker exposed to direct sunlight on the dashboard. OBD-II install is meant to live inside the cabin, out of view.
  • Don't open the case. Contact support if it needs service.
